Here’s what’s happening tonight and all through the weekend at the TSO.
Armenian American pianist Sergei Babayan will perform Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, which was once considered too difficult to actually play. Now, it’s a beloved staple of the concerto repertoire. The TSO will also take on Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, which was written for piano, and brilliantly orchestrated by Maurice Ravel. The Capriccio concertante, by Canadian composer Eckhardt-Gramatte (after whom the national competition is named), opens these concerts. Jader Bignamini conducts.
The Pictures at an Exhibition concerts take place tonight at 7:30 pm, tomorrow at 8 pm, and Sunday at 3:00 pm, all at Roy Thomson Hall.
