The Good Life
Do you have more fruit flies in your kitchen this summer? It’s a common complaint across Toronto … and we can apparently blame it on the city strike. During the walkout … fruit flies used torn garbage bags full of organic waste as their breeding ground. According to pest control experts, once the strike was over, the armies of fruit flies ended up in the kitchens and compost heaps across Toronto as they tried to find new places to breed. Best way to get rid of them? Experts say toss garbage and rotting food, refrigerate all perishables and disinfect kitchen countertops.
But there’s also a home remedy pet control experts say you may want to try. Fill a bowl or jar with a sweet liquid … add two drops of dish soap … and cover the rim with plastic wrap. Poke the plastic wrap with a few holes. The fruit flies will go in, but they won’t be able to get out.
