The Good Life
Remember the craze for Nouveau wines in the eighties? The fad for huge fanfare and glitzy parties marking the annual November release has been over for a long time. But if you like the light-style Nouveau and Novello wines, eight 2009 versions (6 from France, 2 from Italy) are in store now.
They’re getting rave reviews. It was a long sunny growing season in France this year … so the Nouveaus in particular, are said to be excellent. In fact … famed Beaujolais producer Georges Duboeuf proclaimed this year’s harvest “the best of the last 50 years.”
These wines are budget-friendly – they are all under $15. Experts say they should be served slightly chilled and pair well with appetizers, hard cheeses, patés, and festive ham or prosciutto.
