Every seven minutes, someone in Canada dies from heart disease or stroke. Olympic figure skater Joannie Rochette’s mother was one of those people, passing away from a heart attack at just 55 years old and just two days before Joannie’s short program at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Joannie did compete with a heavy heart. The music began and her body flowed with every familiar note. It was a very emotional bronze medal win. Now, eight years later, Joannie is supporting Heart & Stroke’s February Heart Month Canvas. Volunteers are raising funds for research breakthroughs, and raising awareness for the signs of a heart attack.
