Memories, laughs & Music! Ted Dykstra & Richard Greenblatt return to 2 Pianos, 4 Hands

Station Blog2022-6-16By: Mark Wigmore

Hey, remember the 90s!?

That’s when actors Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt got together for a conversation about learning to play the piano.

It’s hard! The muscle memory, the physicality, the artistic nuance and the psychological rabbit holes. The duo put together a short piece for Tarragon Theatre, and 2 Pianos, 4 Hands was born. Suddenly, audiences could live through the yearning, ambition and motivations to go after your dreams.

Ted and Richard may have not reached their goal to become internationally acclaimed concert pianists, but they have created and performed one of Canada’s most successful plays.

The Tarragon run garnered a Dora Award win for Outstanding Production, then a National tour. From there, Off Broadway in New York, the Kennedy Centre in DC, and back to Toronto and the Royal Alex. Then to Europe and London’s West End, Japan, Australia, South Africa and a farewell tour hitting major Canadian cities.

Through July 17th, 2022 the duo are back at the Royal Alexandra Theatre for a run that marks over 25 years since the debut.

Ted Dykstra a celebrated actor, writer and director. He currently is Co Artistic Director with Coal Mine Theatre on the Danforth and is a founding member of Soulpepper, along with a massive CV including film, television and theatre credits.

Richard Greenblatt is a 7 time Dora Award winner, musician, actor, director, playwright and more recently, author.

Richard and Ted joined Mark Wigmore on The Oasis for a wide ranging conversation, plenty of laughs, and even Mark’s signature rapid fire “Five Questions”.
