The suspect arrested in a mass stabbing in Saskatchewan that killed 10 and injured 18 has died from self-inflicted wounds according to officials.
Sources confirm that Myles Sanderson died shortly after being taken into custody, after police rammed his stolen vehicle.
Images of the arrest showed a stretch of highway near Saskatoon with at least 10 police vehicles surrounding a white SUV, the subject of an emergency alert sent out by police earlier in the afternoon amid fears Sanderson had been spotted and was armed.
After being detained, Sanderson was sent in an ambulance to Saskatoon’s Royal University hospital, escorted by two police cars.
Sanderson faced multiple murder charges for his role in a knife attack that devastated the James Smith Cree Nation.
The victims habe been identified: Thomas Burns, 23, Carol Burns, 46, Gregory Burns, 28, Lydia Gloria Burns, 61, Bonnie Burns, 48, Earl Burns, 66, Lana Head, 49, Christian Head, 54, Robert Sanderson, 49 and Wesley Petterson, 78.
Eighteen other people were wounded in the rampage.
RCMP will hold a news conference Wednesday evening.
