Sunday Night at the Opera: Juan Diego Florez

Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Florez is world famous as a Bel Canto singer in roles by Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti.  It turns out his technique and sensitivity suit him admirably for Mozart, whose music he did not tackle til he was 40.

In his Sony Classical album of 10 Mozart arias from operas spanning Mozart’s entire career, he sings with luminous clarity.  “Mozart is like an angel”, he says.” He died very young, perhaps because the world was to small for his genius”.  (Sony 2017)
