The Canadian pianist calls Calgary home and has been thrilling audiences for over a decade as a recording artist and touring concert pianist. He made his orchestral debut at age 9, traveled to Poland for the Chopin and his Europe Festival at 13, and was signed to Deutsche Grammophon at 15 in 2010. Since then, Jan has won numerous awards including a Juno. He is an alumnus of The Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School. And his recordings of Mozart, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Beethoven, and, of course, Chopin have topped classical charts around the world and received rave reviews.
The New York Times called his more recent performances “Pristine, Intelligent” and “Uncommonly Sensitive”.
In 2019 he surprised the classical world with his expansive Beethoven Concerto release alongside The Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
And in 2021, another gorgeous DG release, The Complete Chopin Nocturnes. It is material close to the talent’s heart, and repertoire that he was able to record during the pandemic.
Jan Lisiecki joined host Mark Wigmore on the Oasis to talk about his most recent recording, touring life, his home town of Calgary, and what to expect at Koerner Hall.
