ANGELE DUBEAU ON 25 YEARS OF LA PIETA, THE ‘ELLE’ ALBUM & LUDOVICO EINAUDI

Station Blog2022-2-22By: Mark Wigmore

Rarely a day goes by on The New Classical FM where we don’t hear from violinist and Music Director, Angele Dubeau.

The Quebec star has enjoyed a career that has spanned over five decades, starting at the Montreal Conservatory of Music and then to Julliard stateside. She spent time studying and performing in Romania before returning to North America. Dubeau has picked up countless awards and has sold over 600,000 albums. Works from her discography have been streamed over 150 million times in over 100 countries. She is a virtuoso, a passionate musical communicator and a brilliant leader.

For the last 25 years, her ensemble La Pieta has been touring and recording and landing atop Canadian and International charts. The all-female group has put a focus on modern composers like Max Richter, Ludovico Einaudi and Philip Glass. Film and television scores have been an important part of its repertoire, and more recently, a pointed focus on female composers like Rachel Portman and Rebecca Dale.

For Angele Dubeau and La Pieta’s 25th anniversary, the ensemble has released a new album titled Elle; a record entirely conceived of, played, and composed by women. It’s Angele Dubeau’s 46th recording project, and one of many with Analeckta records.

Angele Dubeau and La Pieta will be in Toronto on Friday February 25th, at Koerner Hall, 8pm. Tickets and Livestream options are available.

Oasis host Mark Wigmore sat down with Angele Dubeau for an expansive conversation. Listen here!
