The guidelines were clear – “Look your best… change partners after every dance (and) do not leave the club with a soldier”.
When the Maple Leaf Club opened on June 1st 1942 in the Saint James Church, The Orillia Citizens War Committee – with its over 200 women and girls – acting as hostesses to the men and women of the Basic Training Camp 26 – quickly became a greatly appreciated distraction during World War II.
Re-live that magic at the Maple Leaf Club Revival – September 10th at the Saint Saint James Auditorium in Orillia. Dancing to the Orillia Big Band – Bar and Snacks – Period costumes welcome
