Among the notable landmarks of Northumberland County – it is The Big Apple that is perhaps that most novel.
To be precise it is the Big Apple’s rather iconic twelve meter tall “Mister Applehead” – purportedly the world’s largest apple structure, and complete with an observatory – that has received much of the attention over the years.
The brainchild of Australian immigrant George Boycott – it has stood proudly there since 1987. Its smiley face added in 2013. Also worthy of note are the over seven million apple pies the roadside bakery and attraction has produced over the past three and a half decades. Impressive to the core!
