Superstar Classical Guitarist Miloš Karadaglić introduces “Baroque” on The Oasis

Station Blog2023-10-6By: Mark Wigmore

Over the last several decades, Miloš Karadaglić has helped raise the profile of a criminally underrated instrument in the world of classical music. The guitar. He grew up in the conflict-surrounded Montenegro in the 1990s and after years of study, sent an application video to far off London, England and the Royal Academy of Music. At just 17, he began his further studies at the famed institution. His debut album a few years later would sit at #1 on the Billboard Classical charts for over 6 months.

His six studio albums have sold over half a million copies and topped classical album charts in multiple countries. He has two Gramophone Awards. Music Magazine included him in “Six of the Best Classical Guitarists of the Past Century” and The New York Times cited him as “one of the most exciting and communicative classical guitarists today.”

Miloš‘s collaborations are almost as impressive as his solo works. Lang Lang’s Disney Book. Jonas Kaufmann’s The Sound of MoviesThe Moon and the Forest with Canadian Lord of the Rings composer Howard Shore. Furthermore, he was included on projects with Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Lisa Batiashvili, Alison Balsom, and Jess Gillam.

His Sony Classical label debut is Baroque. It features Miloš‘s carefully curated selection of baroque works especially transcribed and arranged for the guitar, both solo and in collaboration with Jonathan Cohen and his ensemble ‘Arcangelo’. The album features Bach, Marcello, Scarlatti, Rameau, Handel and Vivaldi to name a few. He will perform moments from baroque at Carnegie Hall in November 2023, and then goes out on NA tour in 2024 with Quebec City’s Les Violons Du Roy.

Miloš Karadaglić spoke to The Oasis host Mark Wigmore from his studios in London.
