Michael Schulte, violinist and Artistic Director of one of Canada’s oldest concert series, Chamber Music Hamilton, joins Classical Jukebox.
Daniel Vnukowski interviewed Michael Schulte who talked about his upcoming concerts at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, starting with the Lydian String Quartet. They are in Canada just to perform for Chamber Music Hamilton on Sunday, March 3rd at 2pm. The quartet will play Zhou Long’s evocative, “Song of the Ch’in”, followed by Maurice Ravel’s great masterpiece.
Michael then joins the quartet on viola for the soaring late Brahms string quintet, Op.111. On April 7th, Michael and friends bring us Beethoven’s “Ghost Trio”, Mozart’s G- piano quartet, and Shostakovich’s monumental piano quintet. The pianist is Canada’s great Leslie Kinton. May 5th features Musica da Spalla; Michael Schulte on his popular historical instrument, the violoncello piccolo da spalla, and violin and viola, with veteran concert accordionist, Joseph Petric.
They play works by G. Telemann, J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, A. Dvorak and B. Bartok.
